I have no idea what I was looking up, but I came across this and now I can't stop watching footage of people tarp surfing. When done well, it just looks great. LOL. Enjoy

Last night we glued up our first deck in our new press. It went fairly smoothly. We won't know until tomorrow if the blank looks decent. We had a few hicups while putting the ply together. While the gluing went smoothly, we quickly realized there was no real easy way to make sure our various mold parts were registered. We did our best to eyeball them. I think it will turn out okay, but maybe not as exact as I prefer. There are enough plys left to create a second deck. I will be adding a few pieces of wood to help register it and disperse the pressure more evenly. I also plan on trimming the ply closer to size and trimming the plastic bag we use to protect the mold just bigger than the board surface. Tune in for the unveiling of the blank and be sure to come back to see the second pressing with the mold upgrades. A few weeks ago we built a 48" foam cutting wire bow. It took some fiddling but we were able to get stainless steel fishing line to work. We had tried tungstun wire and mig wire. After much experimentation and ruined foam, we were able to get one nice 48" piece of concaved foam to use in our mold. Last night we created our base for the mold which allows our foam to be bent into a camber. We also kicked up the tail and nose. We will be pressing 7-8 sheets of 1/16" Baltic Birch plywood to create a board with camber, concave and kick tale. Hopefully within the next week or so we will press the board. Pics to come. America isn't the only place skateboarding is popular. In locales such as Germany, France and England, people take to their boards to find the best places to fly up and down, creating a new phenomenon in unlikely places such as the Bavarian Alps. I'll give this five out of five stars. I really like how this series brings you back to the early days of skating and introduces you to modern skate spots. You get a history lesson and a new perspective all at the same time. Brought to you by the innovative company Vans, you meet pro and amature skaters as they take you on a tour of their stomping grounds. In this episode you get to see some really amazing architecture and brick work that seemed to be designed to skate on. Today I was down by the shore with my 3/4" plywood cruiser. I recently picked up a set of Abec 7 bearings and Abec Freeride 78mm 84a wheels. I wanted to try them out and wear them in so they'd be ready to ride on my new board that I'm building. In Los Angeles' raging skateboarding scene of the mid-1980s, Corey Webster (Josh Brolin), the preppie ringleader of a skateboarding dynasty, falls in love with the sister (Pamela Gidley) of Tommy Hook (Robert Rusler), the punk leader of a rival gang. The forbidden romance flowers as the two gangs train for a grueling, 20-mile, downhill race -- with corporate sponsorship as the reward for whichever team can thrash its way to victory. I love cheesy 80s movies. If you love cheesy 80s movies, you'll love Thrashin'. It has a great balance of 80s story telling and awesome mid 80s skater stylin'. Josh Brolin gives his best performance. Even better than No Country for Old Men. Okay, I may be exaggerating, but you need to head over to Netflix with your subscription and check it out. You really can't beat a movie like this streaming. It's perfect for playing in your garage while you work on your boards or plan your next deck. Check out the auction. This board looks awesome and it's under $20. May have to order this. This is an awesome old school graphic on a Santa Cruz Rob Roskopp board. I found this rotary cutting veneer video on youtube today. That's a lot of veneer! I'm looking for a supplier in Rhode Island to purchase baltic birch veneer from. It seems to be difficult. Dennis Hopper narrates Cesario Montano's documentary on the roller-coaster life of skater legend Christian Hosoi. Earning the awe of his peers in the mid-1980s, Hosoi then hit rock bottom with crystal meth use and imprisonment for drug trafficking. He found redemption in Christianity and now strives to be a positive influence. Interviews with skaters such as Tony Hawk, Jason Lee and Tony Alva, and never-before-seen home videos, are included. Yesterday I checked out Rising Son: The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi. I remember skating back in the late 80s and early 90s. Who would have thought that all of this was going on behind the scenes. The movie is worth a watch if you are into skateboarding and even if you are just in the mood to watch someone destroy themselves and come out of it. I'll give it four out of five stars on Netflix. There are few other flicks on there for skateboarders right now. I'll post more soon. I decided yesterday that I'd chop down my old board and make it usable while I plan out some new boards. I decided to take my hulk of a board and lengthen the wheelbase. After the wheelbase was lengthened I sliced off a good chunk of wood to make carving easier. Since I had my silk screen laying around I tossed some of my logos on it. Just a quick graphic slap. Not too shabby. Putting some coats of lacquer on, greasing the bearings and preparing to at least buy a set of wheels. | AuthorSkateboarding, surfing, guitar playing guy that's always building something.
